My cat has an ingrown nail, that is growing into his paw. I can't get it, and it maybe infected. Not sure.

So i want to know if there is something i can put on it until, he see his doctor. The hospital wants to charge me 180.00 dollars for the visit. But that i can not afford right now, my animal has always been in terrific health. So i wasasking if i can put something on it until monday?My cat has an ingrown nail, that is growing into his paw. If you can keep him from licking it, first use some hydrogen peroxide (he won't like it) and then pat it dry and put some neosporin on it. If you have to, wrap his paw in some bandaging if you have any. Just try not to let it get more infected. DON'T let him outside either until he sees the vet. U should take it to the vet if u can't get it out. That's what I would do cuz afterall i am a crazy cat lady.
I can't imagine why any place would charge $180 for such a simple surgery. The cat needs to be sedated and the nail removed. The price could be that high with gas anesthesia though which is the safest for your cat. You cannot wait for this to abcess and effect his whole system so it is best if you bite the bullet financially and get it cleared up.





If you can get some Arnica 30C from a homeopathic pharmacy (Elephant pharmacy here) you can give 1-3 pills a day. You simply dissolve the pill in a drop of filtered water on your finger and spread it over the cat's lips and maybe some in the mouth. It must be given between ';meals'; and not with food.
I really don't know of anything you to but take to vet.
Your cat needs to see the vet. Call around and see if one in your area will take a post dated check, payments etc Most take credit cards. Infection isn't something to wait around with and can actually kill your cat if it goes untreated. Infection can weaken the heart etc.





Claws growing into the pad etc can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for your cat in addition to making it difficult to do the things cats do.





If it's puss filled and smelly you really need to see a vet and very soon. Your cat needs treatment. If it's not smelly or full of puss you can gently clean the area using an antibacterial soap, rinse it well and dry gently, and try to see where the injury is.





Wrapping your cat snugly in a towel or baby blanket will make it easier to do.





If the nail is long and can be clipped, then carefully clip the nail using claw clippers. Remove excess nail gently. Watch the site of injury for signs of infection.

My cat's dew claw was growing into one of her foot pads. I contacted a professional groomer who was able to cut the nail and the entire piece of nail came out of the pad. He told me to put neosporin on it for several days and watch for infection and take to vet if the pad showed infection or did not heal. If the pad is infected, the cat needs antibiotics. Definitely don't let the cat outside. Don't put a lot of neosporin so that the cat can't ingest that much if he licks it. If you see the cat licking it, wipe it off. If part of the nail was left in, this definitely would have needed a vet attention to get it out. Just don't let this develop into a serious infection that invades your cat's body.

I have had vets tell me I could use neosporin or betadine on my pet's wounds. But you don't want to take a chance with your pet. The best thing would be to consult a vet or even a professional groomer associated with a vet. I stress the word professional when referring to groomer since I think anyone can call themselves an animal groomer in some states.
this sucks but you need to find a small , family friendly vet (family friendly meaning dont cost that much for families like on a buget)
If you have ever had an ingrown nail you know how it hurts and is irritating it is. By the way, a cats claws are retractable, how did it get ingrown? That particular claw will probably have to be removed.
you could keep trying to cut it or i would try to find a diffent vet that wont charge as much.
