Is it okay for dogs to bite their nails?

Someone told me not to let her bite her nails because she'll pull them clear off and bleed to death. I don't know how to stop her. Any suggestions? Is it okay if she does this? She's on the couch being so cute and good and biting her nails right now.Is it okay for dogs to bite their nails?
Its really only a problem if your dog is doing in compulsively or has hurt herself in the past from doing this. Keep in mind that if she is biting at her paws, they could be itchy, which is a sign of a food allergy.

That said, my nine year old dog has been doing this for as long as I can remember. It seems to be part of how he grooms himself. He licks at his paws and bites at them. We have NEVER had any problems with it. He enjoys doing it. He often does it after we come back from a walk and he has probably picked up a lot of scents in his paws. Don't try to make your dog stop unless the behavior is compulsive or ifshe injures herself.

Think about it this way: lots of humans bite their nails and it never causes a problem for them.Is it okay for dogs to bite their nails?
One of my dogs does this a lot. Has never caused any problems. She doesn't do it compulsively. Never gets down to the quick. I've had dogs for 30 years, and unless she becomes compulsive about it or makes herself bleed, I personally wouldn't worry.
well to honist i have never seen a dog do this i would advise you not to incourage her as it will be come a habbit and perhaps call the vet and see what they say. There are little vains in there nails that will bleed but in the same sence dogs are very intelengant animals so i dont think she would do it it were it would bleed but perhaps shes trying to tell you she wants her nails cutting ither that or she is extreamly bored nys ways good luck
Your dogs nails probably need to be trimmed. That's one reason she could be biting them.
the only time I have seen a dog bite their nails is because their nails were too long. They won't pull them out, it would start hurting and when it did they would stop. Just like when people bite their nails, they won't pull them out. Your dog would have to be on some majorly bad drugs in order to do that.
Ive never heard of this? My cats bite there nails but there just cleaning them up
Never heard of this and NO thats not okay because if she is doing that it seems that they are too long maybe even hurting her because if they get to long they will begin to curl and hurt them so she maybe trying to tell you something, but I hope she dont chew and hurt herself even though I know dogs probably know their pain and when to stop.

hope I helkped a little
