I don't know about using a regular dremel for nails. They make lower rpm dremels specifically for nail if that's what you're looking for.

But if you are going to use it here's some hints...

-first make sure that it won't scare the dog, turn it on and see if he is scared of the noise

-use the lowest setting (if it's variable speed)

-don't let the dremel stay on one spot for any length of time, it builds up heat very quickly and may burn your dog

-make sure to keep styptic close by in case you get the quick and they start bleeding (comes in powder and liquid)

-remain calm to reassure the dog that it's nothing to worry about. If they sense that you're worried or tense, they will be too.

Good luck with the nails! Can i use a dremel for my dogs nails? and how do i use it?
Give it back to your friend %26amp; use regular nail clippers. The dremel tool is too loud, it vibrates %26amp; the dog will not tolerate it. Most dogs can't stand their feet messed with %26amp; you will not be able to get your dog to co-operate if you even try to use it. Take your dog to a groomer just to get his nails clipped. They don't charge much %26amp; it is cheaper than taking a dog to the Vet for the nail clipping.
yes you can. You need to use the sanding disk and a slow setting. The heat can build and burn them if you are not cautious. You take the nail in between your fingers as you would to clip it and then apply the sanding wheel to the bottom side of the nail supporting it with the thumb of your hand closest to the dogs nail. Be careful, it works fast and builds heat fast. You may want to start on their back feet to allow them to see that although it feels strange to them it does not hurt.
You might not want to use a large dremel, as they rotate way too fast and if you are not use to handling them, can get out of control very quickly. I bought a smaller dremel at wal-mart that has a rechargeable battery on it and only has two speeds. It is very quiet, and with the battery, doesn't run at extremely high speeds. It works great on my dogs nails and he doesn't mind me filing his nails at all.
if you don't want to dremmel the dogs nails yourself, any groomer can do this. a lot of groomers use dremmels to sand off the rough edges of the nail. the lady that did my dogs nails clips them first and then does the edges with the dremmel. doesn't hurt them and it doesn't bother them. i am eventually going to get one myself so i can do it.
If you are worried about cutting your dog I would suggest using the dremel. That way if you do end up cutting the quick it will get carterized.
Dear God, NO. isn't a dremel a power tool? There's this crazy pet-icure nail shaving thing on TV I always see but that looks like a real pain. Go to Wal-Mart and in the dog section you should find nail clippers. Find a pet store if wal-mart doesnt carry them. Just never cut em' too short cause when it starts bleeding... it's hard to stop!
